HAVANA, December 17 (José Antonio Fornaris, Cuba-Verdad)
Independent Cuban journalist Amarilis Cortina was prevented from covering a
trial at the municipal court in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana, by five State Security
agents.
Cortina was on her way to the Municipal Popular Tribunal in Arroyo Naranjo
on December 13 to cover the trial of dissident Julia Cecilia Delgado González
when she was intercepted by the five agents in civilian clothing.
One of them identified himself upon Cortinas demand and, after
questioning her as to her work with the Cuba-Verdad news agency, prevented her
from gaining access to the courthouse.
State Security agents prevented other dissidents from reaching the
courthouse on the same day. Dissident Delgado was found guilty of disobedience
and sentenced to one year in jail and another year of house arrest. Her trial
was, theoretically at least, open to the public.
