Two Men Who Tried to Leave Cuba Sentenced

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, February 20 (Luis Alberto Rivera, APLO) - Rafael Perera Gómez and Orlando Fernández Pérez, were sentenced to eight years and four-and-a-half years respectively, for trying to leave the island, according to case 6 of (year) 2000 heard in the military tribunal of this city.

Perera's wife, María Traba García, said that her husband and Fernández were beaten when they were apprehended on December 20 by the border patrol. She added that their captors were drunk and that one of them wanted to let the dogs loose on the prisoners.
