Used Shoes Out Of Reach To Workers

CIENFUEGOS, November 7 (Alina Gonzalo, Cuba-Verdad) - The "El Contenedor" store in Aguada de Pasajeros, central Cuba, sells used shoes that working Cubans find beyond their means, given the quality and cost.

The shoes, bought or donated abroad, are sometimes excesively worn or torn, and are sold at 1.00 and 1.50 in dollars, which is the equivalent of 21 or 31.50 pesos. The average Cuban worker earns 200 pesos a month.

One woman who asked not to be identified said "These torn shoes have been donated to Cuba and now they are sold to us at incredible prices, as if they were new!"
