School Child Intimidated For Having Religious Image

CIENFUEGOS, November 15 (Alina Gonzalo, Cuba-Verdad) – A printed image of Cuba's patron, Our Lady of Charity, found on a classroom floor, led a teacher to intimidate a 5th grade child in Aguada de Pasajeros, Cienfuegos province.

Olga Lidia, 5th grade teacher in the José Antonio Echevarría school, found the card on the floor and asked the students whose it was. When none of the children came forward, she tore the card, saying "No one may have religious images in school."

The child who had taken the card to school, a girl named Mairelys, later picked the pieces out of the trash and took them home. Now she says she feels uneasy at school.
