Independent Journalist Questioned For Four Hours

HAVANA, November 15 (José Antonio Fornaris, Cuba-Verdad) – Independent journalist María Elena Rodríguez was questioned for four hours yesterday by an agent of the Department of State Security.

Rodríguez was called to a meeting at the national ID card office in 10 de Octubre municipality, in Havana, and upon arriving, was shuffled into an office where a State Security agent who calls himself Jesús was waiting for her.

The agent accused the journalist of falsifying the news and of allowing herself to be manipulated from the United States. "You are paid from abroad for information against the government," he said. He further threatened the journalist with Law 88, a gag law enacted by the government more than a year ago but never so far applied.
