PINAR DEL RIO, November 20 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI)
Hundreds of residents of the towns of Pincho, Santa Mónica and parts of
the municipality of Los Palacios in Pinar del Río province lack water in
spite of having a newly-built waterworks at their disposal.
The Water Authority, the agency in charge of bringing the new waterworks on
line, said they dont have the fuel necessary to bring officials together
to inaugurate the pumping station.
Engineer Pedro Pablo Hernández Mijares, of the Unitary Council of
Cuban Workers, said that residents got their water in tank trucks sent by the
Cubanacán rice company, but that once the waterworks was finished two
months ago, the company stopped sending the trucks for "lack of resources,
especially fuel."
In the meantime, residents have been left to their own devices, procuring
and carrying water by their own means.
