HAVANA, March (www.cubanet.org) - Dayana Icterián, 20, one of 21
Cubans who last week took refuge in the Mexican embassy in Havana, is back home.
She said she and her boyfriend, a Cuban Army draftee, heard the news on the
street on February 27, and when the opportunity presented itself of getting on
the bus that eventually crashed the embassy gates, they quickly made a decision
and climbed aboard.
She said she called her mother from the embassy on a cellular phone. At the
time, she was sure she would be leaving Cuba to pursue her goals as a
professional dancer, which she said since she doesn't belong to any government
political organization, would not be open to her in Cuba.
Early Friday morning, she said she was awakened by Cuban security forces
called in by Mexican officials and taken out of the embassy. She is now at her
boyfriend's family's home in Havana's San Agustín neighborhood.
