PINAR DEL RIO, October 15 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI /
www.cubanet.org) - Most inspections carried out in establishments belonging to
the food distribution chain reveal a high rate of either overcharging consumers
or delivering underweight products or sometimes both.
In Pinar del Río province, the worst offenders seem to be found at
the dining halls in the work place. The rate of irregularities there was as high
as 77 percent in the first quarter of 2002.
Bakeries as a whole racked up a 48 percent index of violations.
On the other hand, the farmers markets registered the lowest indices
relative to others, at 35 percent. Many residents say they trust the private
producers and sellers than they do those employed at government establishments.
